Can I pay a one night stay at Disneyworld?

I want to enjoy my 2 years of Disney (preferably Magic Kingdom). We live in the south Florida and plan to rent a car for the trip to Orlando. We want a hotel for the evening, then a ticket that will take us into Magic Kingdom for the day. After that, we are counting on the return home. (It is possible that we may stay an extra night and leave the next day morning). I'm not experienced with the layout Disney. One of my friends who went there said it was possible to get a hotel room for $ 29, but you have to "cope" with a lecture on the Timeshare. All advice and comments are appreciated.
